Gemalto to secure Raiffeisen's online banking transactions in Austria

BBR Staff Writer Published 23 May 2012

Austria-based Raiffeisen Banking Group has selected the Ezio Edge Optic solution from Gemalto, a digital security firm, to secure its online banking services.

Raiffeisen started the roll out of the Gemalto application at the beginning 2012 following a comprehensive internal test and training period.

The digital security platform authenticates users by leveraging the security of CardTAN1-compliant debit cards, in addition to authorizing and signing online banking transactions.

The handheld device detects the online banking transaction data entered and sent from the PC screen by using optical sensors.

Gemalto said the securely encoded transaction data needed for verification by the user and signature generation are instantly read when the financial institution's online customers place the Ezio Edge in front of their PC screen.

Raiffeisen Zentralbank board member Johannes Schuster said, "Thanks to the portability of the Ezio Edge Optic our customers can conduct their online banking errands wherever and whenever they want, protected by the highest level of security."

Gemalto eBanking senior vice president Håkan Nordfjell said, "Gemalto is pleased to be able to support Raiffeisen in enhancing that trusted relationship by expanding the scope of Internet services with the secure signing of transactions."
